Regulate Barrie Sex Trade says Letter Writer

LETTER OF THE DAY

Regulate sex trade, not sex businesses

(Re: "Feeling rubbed the wrong way" in the Oct. 31 edition of the Barrie Examiner)

My issue is with the massage parlours all over our city. They're illegal and not policed by our police force?

I quote from Police Chief Wayne Frechette.

"Nobody goes into these places (massage parlours) kicking and screaming" and "there continues to be a demand for this.

"If you are going to have prostitution, the lesser of two evils is to have it behind closed doors - rather than out on the street," he said.

First of all, he admits it is prostitution. Who would go into these places kicking and screaming with the services these places provide!

Why are our bylaws not enforced by a City of Barrie employee? If he, Chief Frechette thinks these places are so in demand, then why doesn't the City of Barrie change the bylaws and legalize them?

Have them pay taxes on the money earned by these sex providers and have them checked for diseases (at their cost), not the taxpayers. I wonder what the city's reaction would be if I opened all-male massage parlours all over our city -- prostitution off the streets, as they are called.

I am sure the all-male parlours would be overwhelmed by the ladies trying to get their little treat as well as the men. Just to make up for what the ladies don't have at home because their husbands are frequenting these places.

Our city officials decided that strip clubs do not present a good image for our city. But massage parlours are almost legal?

If you think I am the only woman that is ticked off by these almost-legal massage parlours, then the City of Barrie officials and Chief Frechette are badly mistaken. We are.

How about making our police chief and his officers enforce our laws regarding these greatly demanded massage parlours.

Is there a good reason why they are not? Depends on who the City of Barrie is asking for input, doesn't it?

Other communities have bylaws in place. Regulate the sex trade, not the sex stores and massage parlours.

Makes me wonder who really are walking freely into these places for their massages?
