Slavko Ilic - Profile of a Massage Parlour Owner

In an article in the Cambridge Times last week Slavko Ilic, who holds one of two "Adult Entertainment Licenses in Cambridge, appeared before council's general meeting on Monday, May 19th in hopes that Cambridge will enforce the bylaws and close down all the other unlicensed massage parlours, otherwise according to Ilic "Cambridge will have one very large red light district."

"They're trying to wipe out the existing licenses. They should be regulated and shouldn't be allowed to flourish," he said.

An article from The Record in In June of 2008 states that Ilic was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, after being caught with 35 kilograms of cocaine in the trunk of his car outside a Kitchener fitness club. Justice Michael Epstein who presided over the case thought the crimes warranted a 10-year prison sentence, but it was reduced due to five years, plusthe 18 months Ilic had already served awaiting trial. Time was deducted for reasons that were outlined in submissions Epstein sealed from public view. "He and others like him prey on the weaknesses of drug users purely for financial gain," Epstein said according to an article in the Kitchener Record. The article went on to describe how Ilic had been still dressed in his gym clothes, selling two kilograms of cocaine to another man in the gym parking lot when officers moved in.

It is then that the officers found another 33 kilograms of cocaine in his car trunk. The drugs were valued at a wholesale value of $ 1 million and an estimated street value of $3.5 million. The investigation of Ilic had all started after police had seized another 46 kilograms of cocaine and arrested two Kitchener men at the U.S. border in Sarnia two months prior.

Although Ilic wasn't charged with importing the drugs, Epstein felt the amount of money and drugs involved showed that Ilic was well up in the distribution chain. Ilic's storied past also included being a member of Blackwater Worldwide, which is a U.S. based private military company where he trained thousands of "contractors" whose job it was to protect U.S. diplomatic personnel in Iraq. Blackwater was criticized at the time for its aggressive tactics most notably a shooting incident in Baghdad that left 17 Iraqi civilians dead, according to an article in The Virgian Pilot in 2006.

Go further back in Ilic's criminal past and you come to 2006, when according to another article in the Kitchener Record, police raided Ilic's home after his estranged wife alleged he had threatened to blow her up if she tried to leave with their two children.

He was charged with a variety of weapons and drug offenses after police found 10,000 rounds of ammo, explosive devices, $14,000 in cash and $2,000 in meth and ecstasy, in his home, the newspaper reported. When he pleaded guilty to two of the charges the rest were dismissed and he was released on probation. Ilic went on to tell a Virginian Pilot reporter in 2006 that "If this is what you do, there's nothing like being there - in the moment, on the edge, beating the odds." The matter comes before council again July 9th.
