Toronto Bodyrub History

Toronto licensed massage parlours staring in the late 1980s or eraly 1990s. It was quite an original idea - not sure where it came from and who spearheaded it. Toronto was amalgamated by Mike Harris in th e1990s and now includes many cities which were independent. The city of Toronto swallowed up North York, Etobicoke, Scarborough, East York and York. The 416 area now holds over 3 million people, slightly more than 905.

Toronto has a limit of 25 Bodyrubs. The waiting list is very long. Only when one is forfeited can another be given out. Probably 1 per year is sold to someone who wants to move the bosyrub license. Usually 3 are sold each year to a new owners. With Toronto, they usually sell for over $150,000.

Richmond Hill had bodyrub licenses between 1999 and 2005. The city was fed up with massage parlours after the murder of three people in the Mirage bodyrub. Richmond Hill used to have hundreds of them clustered around the East Beaver Creek area. They did not renew the bodyrub licenses in 2005 and raided Invisible Touch when it did not close down

Markham and Richmond Hill moved simultaneously. Markham did issue Bodyrub license but does not anymore.

Between 1998 and 2002, there was a battle in Woodbridge/Vaughan over massage parlours. The city won in court and limited the number of massage parlours. Hands From Heaven was forced to move to Brampton in 2008 for some reason.

The city of Brampton tried to reduce the privledges of massage parlours through the courts. The city lost and the Brampton massage parlours were granted even more rights. The owners got very confident and put alot of money into interior decoration. They are now open very late and since they are in industrial areas don't cause much havoc.
